Games are recreational activities that totally rejuvenate our minds.

Various genres of games are readily available to suit the teaching requirements of a school. There are board games, real-life games, and digital games which are of high interest to children. Each of the categories has its own core benefits in the mental development of children.

Since we are in the digital age, digital games are usually preferred by children nowadays. Game developers have developed various online and offline digital games that help in edutainment rather than just providing education or entertainment.

Game-based learning plays a significant role in the education sector and is advantageous to both instructors and learners.

Effects of game-based learning on Students

  • A better understanding of the knowledge concepts - The use of interactive games to impart knowledge in the classroom usually grabs more attention of learners than traditional classroom lectures. They tend to become more involved in what is being taught and better perceive the concepts. This ensures more application-oriented learning than just byhearting theories.

  • Enhancement of Problem-solving skills - Learning concepts through games improve critical thinking ability of children, helping them become independent. Students who conceive what is being taught via interactive games show more participation. Their imagination power is fuelled by this mode of learning process.

  • Promotes Creativity and Freedom - Teaching lessons using games encourages creativity . This, in turn raises the morale of students.Game-based learning is a collaborative process where creativity and freedom of expression find their way.

  • Development of Social Skills in Children - As children are taught to become responsible citizens, imparting social skills becomes equally important as pedagogical skills. It is through comprehensive learning that their attitudes, values and beliefs are all shaped and reinforced. And games are effective means of teaching such social skills.

  • Student motivation and team spirit - Games create an environment for students to effectively communicate and perform well as a team. This enhances their team spirit and prepares them to face competitions.

  • Everlasting Impact - Games are basically remarkable means of entertainment. So giving required information through this mode can have a lasting impression on children. They could remember the lessons more and relate to each and every section taught, if it is by way of some interactive games.

In addition to the already designed genres of games, it is great if the instructors can develop their own game sets to suit the lesson requirements.

The cause and effect of game-based learning

The covid 19 pandemic has created a situation where people became confined to their homes without any social interactions, get-togethers or celebrations. Considering the safety aspects, we were forced to stay at home for a long period. This had a big impact on people becoming addicted to television and mobile phones, especially children. As a result, many new interactive games were developed.

As life is gradually coming back to normal, the learning system is also gradually getting back to offline mode. In this transition phase, it is beneficial to incorporate game-based sessions in the classroom atmosphere to have a positive impact on critical thinking and problem-solving skills of children.

Affiliated to CBSE, the curriculum at Samyuktha School integrates optimal pedagogical practices to reach desired learning outcomes.

We stress on comprehensive and collaborative learning where students and teachers enthusiastically participate to generate advanced educational outcomes using approaches like Game-Based Learning.
